Beauty In The Dark

Contributed by Ka_ching234 on Thursday, 12th April 2007 @ 10:20:07 AM in AEST
Topic: LovePoetry

A single flicker and the world turns black.

You stand there with no one to guide you out of all the darkness. You grow up with the knowledge of ugliness and beauty, but when the candle goes out, you can't tell the difference.

There is someone else sharing the darkness with you. You can hear and feel but you can't see. With no one else to talk to, you talk to him to ease your lonliness. You have finally found a friend, yet you still do not know his face.

You talk and laugh at each other's jokes. A fun little treasure that you keep to yourselves. You laugh and dance in the darkness that surrounds you.

Still you don't know his face, but something you don't know he knows yours. He has known you for a while, but he was afraid to show you his own face.

Suddenly, a candle flickers and the room is lit with the dancing shadows on the walls. YOu look to your companion, and you look deep into his eyes. His eyes are beautiful, but as your eyes travel they take in everything else, his beastly mane, his claws which were as sharp as knives, hi bare hairy feet. You only notice his horrible and hideous features, but also you notice his clothing. He is dressed as if he is royalty. Not only is he dressed as a prince, but he holds him self as a king.

The candle flickers and you fall in love instantly. You love his feet, beastly mane, but most of all you love his eyes. Those eyes are gentle and beautiful. They are the keys to his soul, and his soul is beautiful.

Author's Note: This poem was supposed to be a concrete poem. I wrote it in the shape of a candle after i watched the black-and-white version of The Beauty and The Beast. And could someone please tell me whether this is a poem or a short story because i am not sure.

It sounds like a poem, it would look like one if you put it in stanza form. It is also a very good write, I like the relation it has with Beauty and the Beast, keep up the good work!
