Taking the blows i love to take

Contributed by ediii on Tuesday, 10th April 2007 @ 02:24:54 PM in AEST
Topic: drugabuse

Dependent on substance. Dependent on you.
The flow of the day when you come through.
The joyful look signalizing acceptance
to a scrunched and bent soul full of resentment.
The power you have and knowingly retain,
the power that makes juice spill out of a vein,
the power to smile and save the day,
the power to mislead from path to a stray,
the power of words behind a glass,
the power coming through the conscience of a class...
I need to get away, I know very well,
but whenever I face those peaks of hell
I give in so easily in pursuit of love,
forgetting the quarrels I have failed to solve.
Again and again I set the convulsion up
and tell myself that next time i will stop.
Although the power of a speed of a base ball swing
doesn't make me hide from an upcoming fling
and I stand erect taking the blow
just to die again, painfully and slow.

Wow. Astoundingly well-written. Rolls off of the tongue, and at the same time articulates exactly what it feels like to be addicted.

I'm very impressed. The ending is particularly profound.

Well done.
Mili.
