Empires
Let the kingdoms burn, Let the flames rise
Let the kings and the gods behold
An Incandescent inferno of a tangerine sky
On this eve they let there be a glorious cry
Kingdoms of man have risen & fallen
In the restless dust of histories pages
Empires forged from the blood and blades
Forged from iron will and stoic bravery
Drink deep from your blood drunk spirit
Fill the chalice of you hatred with your enemies fear
Let their heads roll and there blood spill
Let the ground give way to a river of crimson
Their souls pouring from their empty bodies
Slick across the blades and bodies of both ally and enemy
And let the sun rise upon a wasteland
Bathed in the putrid stench of battle and death
Baptized in the blood of the fallen
Broken weapons making gravestones for them
Then creep slowly home into the arms of loved ones
And tell not of your glory or of your shame
To the ears of ardent children
Who too search for some desperate glory

I like this a lot. Paints pictures in the mind of ancient conquerers yet could just as easily be talking about the world of today. "Baptised in the blood of the fallen, Broken weapons making gravestones for them" - classic! Immense and provoking. Can you tell I like??? |
