Poem Reading
I had intended to say,
“It is not that we see so much that is not worth looking at,
but that we look at so much – we almost never really see anything”
but I didn’t say it quite right.
It was Ashbery that reminded me, in his poem for Clare,
that Maya’s rock is a rock is a rock is…
important
but, then, I knew that already.
I was gathering possibilities by then,
cupping them in my hands
and throwing them into the air –
redefining “optimism” with a poet’s neurotic enthusiasm.
And why not? Or more accurately – why don’t we?
What’s wrong with us that we don’t
instinctually believe in the all-of-everything
and the everything of all things?
If we closed the eye that can’t see its own dreams
and realized that everything is what it might seem
(if we were blind enough to believe such things),
we’d be brave enough to dive headlong
into those uncharted waters that exist within.
There, on each island that we journeyed to,
we’d find the rocks that might anchor us
basking on the shores of a dream
and we’d do so, only for having drown first.
We have but two choices.
We can accept the universal definitions
that have been handed to us – or we can,
dare to discover the universe for and within ourselves.
The former is, as should be obvious, self imposed
intellectual and might I suggest, emotional atrophy
but if you don’t mind the possibility of shock therapy –
the other is a very viable alternative.
For heaven’s sake – why did we ever let them
“teach” us to swim?
We could, I suppose – if we wanted to,
sit around talking about how deep the water is,
how we read a book or poem once about a swimmer,
how our grandmother once was pinched by a crab
while swimming at the shore on some long ago
summer vacation that the family took………
But, God!
somewhere deep inside each of us
is a part of us that remembers how the water feels
and that knows that we belong there.
What is wrong with us that we listen only
to everyone else?
Why are we so scared… to get our feet wet?
I had said something like,
“It is not that we see so much that is not worth looking at,
but that we look at so much – we almost never really see anything”
but I realized I meant something quite different.
I was thinking, actually,
about how fantastically different things look
underwater.

It is a much better piece to hear you read it as it impacts you. A wonderful touch. My favourite element is the water. I enjoy floating freely and putting all my trust in it's comfort and support.A great piece as always. |

Listening to your poem I was swept away by its depth and meaning, it is quite simply outstanding.
Your poem left me longing, for what I do not know, but for something, anything more.
Reading the poem works, but it is infinitely better to close your eyes and just listen because that lets the poem actually speak to you.
I thank you for sharing such wonderful emotions with us.

First of all this made me cry. I know it wasn't written for me, but it sure felt like it. *hugs you tight* Snemmers, my friend, your reading to me..to us was touching and made me feel like you and I were sitting together, face to face, holding our hands together. I felt your words "touch my skin". You are a wise woman, my friend. Thank you so very much for sharing this piece.
Peace and love,
Lauraloo (to you *wink*) |

Take a bow dear poetess! Take a bow and sit back to hear them applaud infinite minutes of standing ovation! My, my Snemmy this my dear is your masterpiece. I cheered through each line, and yes I listened with ear, spirit, mind, and eye! I applaud you and extend my hand to you to raise you this day above the crowd. You have just blown the mind of this poet! I was told a little about this piece before experiencing it myself and I must say for what you attempted to acomplish with this write YOU NAILED IT with one fluid and brilliant stroke of your poet's hammer! That's all I can say it may seem like a lot, but utterly I am almost speechless. You my friend, have the floor!
BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO!

Snem,
it took me a while to plug the speakers in but it stands testament to poetry as a spoken medium for its real power and feeling. This is as much your personal course charted, as a discourse on direct experience and tapping into the potential within us all.
off for a dip,

Hi Snemmy,
In the mentioning of 'the-all-of -everything',that true blue all-of-everything
that you refer to in your poem,'Lifted',I know
that you have found or ,at the very least, are
aware of and seeking something quite awesome.
It is a mystery to me but I truly believe that
the answers lie within those deep pools of the psyche.Where the true blue
reality of how things really are,can be found.
The audio was just perfect, releasing the
passion you so strongly feel for this.
Frustrated that I can't truly grasp 'it' but
impressed to the hilt with the write.Bravissimo!

Okay, my dearest friend. I think I have pondered over this one enough to leave some
form of articulate words to express the magnificence of this thought-turned-write. Snemmers,
we have discussed this sort of thing before and I have to say, you have done such an incredible
job with the notion. I ADORE, (really and TRULY adore) the last stanza. In a word, "brilliant".
There is so much to be said about the advice of this piece. I am not discouraged that
we learned to swim, but mostly that we learned to FLOAT. How can we possibly discover the
true DEPTHS if we casually continue to float? There is a fear in drowning, methinks, because it is
akin to "not breathing", but sometimes I want to NOT breathe, if that makes sense. I WANT to drown.
It is in the moments when we are breathless that the greatest and most glorious emotion and passion
washes over us. I never want to deny myself the full pleasure of THAT!!
You, hun are a very DEEP swimmer, (one of the deepest I know) and I both admire and adore that
about you. I think that is what allows you to re-create your sentiments and notions via the pen with
such seeming ease. The moment you entertain a thought, is the beginnings of a genius at work.
Beautiful, hun. Just so adoringly beautiful.
Your humble friend, in admiration
(and profoundly happy to be so)
~Breezy |
