LONELINESS
EVERYDAY YOU CAN FIND ME LOOKING OUT MY WINDOW,
WATCHING THE DAY COME AND THE DAY GO.
NO PLANS PENDING, NO WHERE TO BE,
NO PLACE TO GO, NO ONE TO SEE.
FOR LONELINESS IS LIKE A CANCER, IT CONTINUES TO GROW,
BEFORE YOU REALIZE IT, IT’S BIGGER THAN YOU KNOW.
THERE’S NOTHING TO LOOK FORWARD TO AS I START THE DAY,
AND AS NIGHT FALLS IT ALWAYS ENDS IN THE SAME OLD WAY.
IT SEEMS IN MY OLDER AGE IT’S HARDER TO GET AROUND,
AND THERE’S NOTHING BUT AGE, IN THIS OLD HOMETOWN.
NO ONE STOPS TO SEE HOW I’M GETTING ALONE,
AND I’M NOT SURE WHAT I’D DO, IF SOMETHING WENT WRONG.
I PRAY THAT GOD WILL SOON TAKE ME TO MY HOME IN THE SKY,
RATHER THAT SITTING HERE WATCHING THE DAYS GO BY.
