Hollywood is Burning

Contributed by FrancisWolf on Sunday, 1st April 2007 @ 02:29:08 PM in AEST
Topic: LovePoetry

The center of a dirty bed
A fixture fit and a moving head
Getting through and words are said, clearly

A dancing clock on a pedestal
An object worth the ridicule
A simple song singing cruel, tonight

Hollywood is on fire
The signs smoking as the smoke expires
As we roll on like automobile tires, collecting

And everything we ever wished for is in a haze
Like a lover's marble ball slipping through a maze
We worked the pain together like an intense piece of art
Through the wingspan in your embrace and the shallowness in my heart

Pocket watch to tell the time
Numerical failure as the spaces align
With an action twist and a fleeting crime, alright

Beautiful bed, a sweet cacoon
Too small for two but we make the room
Like a clown car or a loony tune, animated

Outside fireman shoot the hose
The ground is ash, no lingering rose
And our forest's show comes to a close, goodnight

We made love that night as the whole city fell
Like a bed of roses on an ancient hell
And it's hard to tell if we are criminals for being stuck in our own plane
Between the heaviness in hearts and the comfort seen insane

I liked this poem for the contrasts in the ideas, such as the 'beautiful bed' and then in the following stanza 'the ground is ash'. This makes the emotional content of the poem seem like a bit of a rollercoaster.
That's the impression I get anyway.

Dom

It is said that often people grow closer in times of tragedy or danger...Yes to the point of wanting to wash away the horrors by making love. This piece is an example laid out well of just that concept.Well done.
