Rest and Dream your whole.

From the Naegeli"s
Canada

To Sammy Sam
Our one and only all black Katt.
Was hit by a car and now he’s gone

Remembering back these 14 years and all the wonderful times we had
How the kids all remembered that cold November the year that you were borne
How at Christmas that same year you climbed up in the tree
Oh funny, comical, silly black Katt.
We just had to keep this one
The kids wrapped him up in Christmas wrap
And he was their gift to me

So he became the new addition.
And Sammy came on board
Named Samantha
Sammy for short
We thought she was a girl

But later to find that she wasn't a She
But a HE instead.

Blending in quite well with the already menagerie
From Guinea Pig, hamster and long eared Hare
Old Sam had seen it all.

Sammy mated with the resident female and
Produced a very proud litter
The female Katt her name was Babes
And had a son named Smoker
Now Sammy’s clan began to grow with Katts and more Katts abound

The last three males were with him now
Their names the same as ours
The ones now past but still remembered
Are Baby and Babes
Riggins and Steeler

And so from the seven litters from two particular felines
Two more were added to the crew.
Sammy’s life partner Zimba and her grandson OJ
And of course her brother Butts. And an odd one we called OZZIE

Then with a blink of an eye we had 14
Believe me it is true.
The pictures taken hold the proof
Seven kittens and seven full grown.

When the later years began to creep
Old Sammy was pretty happy , sprightly, healthy and content
My husband in his favorite chair
And Old Sammy Sam in his
Knew all his favorite places and his name on his own dish.

But in the past few years
It began to show his sight was slowly fading
And quite soon after
It became apparent His hearing had gone too.
Old Sam was smart and knew the cut of the land
And for 13 years he roamed, walked, climbed and clawed
His most memberable turf.

So when things got bad
He made a pact
That he could no longer roam
Just across the street and back again to his corner within the fence
Where He knew he safe
And no danger was around.

But this fateful morning just after Breakfast
He went out which was his usual way
Then came the call at 11 o clock
It said your cats been hit.
He looks critical and definitely not good.

Huber’s, my son and I raced to where Our Sammy was taken
Did the papers and called the Vet
Stay Open I Pleaded
Stay open we are coming
Bringing Sam Sam in.

Old Sammy’s back was broken
But he cried not a sound
But just like Sam he waited patiently
Till we had arrived.

We spoke his name and stroked his fur
I knew that he could sense us.
They gave him a shot to ease the pain
And Sammy summed up all his strength
Rose his head up to look us in the eye.

No feeling from his hips on down
He couldn’t move hind limb or tail.
But he raised his head and opened his eyes just to let us know.
He knew we were there.

Our Sammy was much too old and wouldn’t heal like before
A decision was made to let him rest
He’d had after all done his best
To hold on through all this mess
Just to say Good-bye.

With his head held high
We scratch and stroked his ears and Faintly
Ever so Faintly I could hear him Purring
Yes I imagine Sammy was remembering it all

I curled my arms around him and whispered in his ear
That he was loved and ever so brave
And I said it’s OK if you go.

No More pain
Like how you felt at the moment
In that instant
Just loving scenes of roaming free
And seeing and hearing sound

I stroked him till his eyes grew weary
That last little spark was gone.
I whispered low and told him to dream and go to sleep
Tomorrow he would be better.
Go to sleep Old Man and dream
My Sammy Sam Sam
My one and only all black Katt.
14 years you spent with us and
Through it all we stuck together
To the very end.
Sleep now old friend
The pain will stop.
And you will be in heaven
Feeling whole again

Peace be still- We miss you and
Will look to hear your snoring.:-)
But Sammy Sam My only black Katt Will live forever in my heart.

It is a very touching poem. I now how it feels to lose some one or some thing we love with all our hearts.
I'm sure "Katt Sammy Sam" knows he is been remembered.

FRANCO.

A warm and wonderful piece of the love we adopt for the creatures we live with here. They are true friends and love us with all our complexities..they judge not. Well done
