Innocent Smile

Out on the arid bush land
where only tears of melancholy rain,
tiny wealth of the land gush through
the rich-men’s greedy drain.
Yet, in midst of starvation and poverty
lingers love, transforming into
tiny infants - though outwardly grimy,
dwell sanctity in their spotless smile.
Their sparkling eyes above the running
nose and the trickling celestial smile beneath;
reveal an infant’s innocence that know not
notorious richness or the stinking penury.
A child black, brown or white is a divine bounty; snatch not
their innocent smile; world next is theirs for a while.

I agree with Emy this is beautifully written with such feeling in it. I love the final stanza because it is so true and I only wish more people could realise this.
A great write as always Franco,

Well written friend it is true that our young ones will lose their innocense and smiles as a result of what they will see. Children should be removed from all war zones and put in a safe and holy place. |

Franco, I am always so impressed with, not only your insight,
but your eagerness to share it and bless us all with your words.
Innocent smile .. such a beautiful phrase in and of itself,
but that it's connected to the wonder and beauty of
a child .. ah, now that is truly magnificent, (though I know
this piece is desperately sad .. )
Franco, my friend, you are a wonder.
Excellent post.
