Baudin

Contributed by CowgirlKid on Tuesday, 25th February 2003 @ 06:00:00 PM in AEST
Topic: MiscPoems

By night he wanders restlessly, the ocean his only tune,
His crew have all abandoned him, all except the moon.

His travels hitched silently on the bough of any boat,
Silently he sings his song in a silent lonely note.

His french words echo sadness, his loss, miles from home,
The sea was his lifetime, his companion and his foe.

The ocean south he wanders still, with no blood but only soul,
His heart is anchored at ocean depths, needed to make him whole.

Yet heart is not what Baudin yearns, its anchor he has lost,
The only night rest shall he, when all water crossed.

He's haunted ships in search for years, without crew he can not sail,
Into sails howl words in french, lonesome is his tale.

For those who listen with great care, they can pick up his tune,
But no one understands him full, no one but the moon.

You must be a history buff like me. I love yarns about the sea and explorers. I must do some reasearch on Baudin...it sounds interesting. Well written, by the way.

Thanks..but actually I am not a historian.. I am more into science..hehe..believe it or not!! A romantic scientist??? hehe.. anyhow.. I learnt about Baudin when I went on a voyage on the tall ship the STS Leeuwin II and we actually did a commemorative vogage, following in the footsteps of Baudin. It was awesome!
