Brave Knight
Canto 4 Book 2
Stanzas 6 and 7

Now Katharine with disposition sweet
did take herself away from Guenevere
to read a lay at a far distant seat
and wait till maid doth leave her cavalier.
Soon she thinks they’ll hear trumpet’s domineer
that heralds time for tasty roast boar feast.
For James starts party yea when they appear,
thus serving nobles high then yeomen least.
Companion stays till they do sever twain the beast.

On knee before the lady’s waiting maid,
Sir Marcus laid out deep affection ‘s ache.
His fervent tender loving kisses played
the lady’s fingers callus nieve did take.
Then lifting eyes to smiling face did spake
of pain for waiting days to be alone
to say all earthly treasures he’d forsake
if she would go to home of oak and stone
and be his wife at Playston Manor most well known.
