A Tale Of The Silent Highway

Contributed by J_Ganey on Tuesday, 25th February 2003 @ 05:00:00 PM in AEST
Topic: fantasy

Locked within the headlights merciful gaze
The rain drops pouring, creating a mystical haze
Shards of glass, piercing my pale youthful skin
The locks of my blond hair, wetter than sin

Perhaps my fragility showed within my eye
My translucent gaze, echoing a soul’s distant cry
Some preternal resemblance of what I used to be
My isolation deserved, with no faith in humanity

The silence of the highway, piercing the hollow
Speaking of my complacence, and doubts that follow
The pendulous blacks of the storms clouds up high
No consolation, the thing I am truly deserved to die

The weary traveler offered me a ride
Unaware of the killer I held deep inside
Eyeing a golden crucifix on a key chain
I then knew it all before he even spoke his name

As he spoke, he seemed to think he knew God by name
Even though the Devil was what he stopped to get out of the rain
Puffing at a cigarette, blowing the smoke out of his nose
This would become his last and final willful pose

Driving around now in a new black corvette.
Blood stains on my teeth, laughing at the pace I kept
Pushing onward toward the county line
His blood in my veins felt divine
