Disapproving Quotes

Topic: SongLyrics

Way back when I was a country star
I use to waddle with my red guitar
I’d kick and strum all about the stage
They fed me whisky and soothed my rage
Till I went out to an old hotel
Caught a night life and the hammer fell
Now I’m sitting in a dirty cell
Wondering about my Annabelle

I work all day and I come back at five
The kids kick my legs just to see I’m alive
The wife is screaming bout the holiday
If we’re staying or we’re going away
I don’t listen I’m just trying to hear
You know I wouldn’t rather be anywhere
But all this stress for money’s got me wondering
Who is this wife I’m working to support and who’re these children?

Heard a rumor from some folks I know
That no person’s worth your tears and woe
And the one who is won’t make you cry
And will love you till the day you die
But I don’t think that’s true you see
It’s a novel concept but it aint pretty
That I think the one’s you love will leave you white as a ghost
Yeah, those are the ones who will hurt you the most

Sweet Maria she was a dancing fool
I took her youth and I took her too
Watched her slip away from me
As I flew cross the whole country
Now she’s bitter and won’t answer the phone
Crosses streets before the walk signs on
Just so someone could bump into her
Saying, “Watch your step sugar”

She found some lipstick that don’t belong to her
On the left side of my shirt collar
Stopped talking to me but kept along
With our lifetime and our children
I still get gifts from her on Christmas day
A bag of clubs worth a hefty pay
And you know I miss her so much I cannot breathe
She’s gone forever and she’ll never leave

Heard a rumor from some folks I know
That no person’s worth your tears and woe
And the one who is won’t make you cry
And will love you till the day you die
But I don’t think that’s true you see
It’s a novel concept but it aint pretty
That I think the one’s you love will leave you white as a ghost
Yeah, those are the ones who will hurt you the most

The story and intention come together beautifully in this piece. Good job and well done.

Peace
Yang
