Blissful Domesticity

A hand held fast in warmest greet
A smile shone wide and one to meet.
Suburban life, a humble surrender.
The patient wife and her male defender.
Sit busily and wait to die.
Lofty dreams have gone awry.
This ship is flooded, sinking fast.
Dragged down by anchors weight so vast.
Its galley full with falling tears
The people drowning in endless fears
They watch themselves fade slowly out
Smile silent against the urge to shout
Every morn they war anew,
Pray for release from fresh-laid dew.
Another day holds promise yet,
To silence cries of vague regret.

I find it sad that the more crafted poetry, such as this, solicit so few comments. You have done a very nice job of creating a metaphor and truly developing it. An excellent summary of the dangers of security. |
