If the pedestal I’ve set you on
Ever gets too high,
Then I will gladly lift you down,
So we’re standing eye to eye.
But once that’s done I’ll be on my knees,
Pleading with you my darling,
Oh, won’t you love me please?
Then you’ll help me up to stand.
When on my feet I’ll take your hand.
But in your presence dear I know,
I’m just a humble man with little to show.
I am not worthy to compare
My lowly ways to a woman so fair.
And everytime I walk away,
With back turned tears, I want to stay.
So if you’re not afraid of heights,
I hope that you will stay,
Up on the pedestal I put you on,
So I can love you more each day!

Intriguing little love poem that deals with, among other things, protocol and power, as well as dominion and rank....a good write this one. |
