My Mother's Hands

My mother’s hands, so soft and smooth,
Would touch my forehead and would soothe
My fevered brow when I was small.
Even now I can recall….
My mother’s hands, with such finesse
Would sew for me a lovely dress.
Sometimes she stayed up very late
So I could wear it on a date.
My mother’s hands, so carefully,
Helped fit my bridal gown on me.
I thought I knew it all back then,
But I would need my mother when….
My mother’s hands, wet with her tears,
Held my own hands inside of hers.
My marriage failed, my future bleak,
My mother kissed me on my cheek….
My mother’s hands, holding my hands tight,
Shared with me in my new delight.
I was beginning a brand new life,
Once again I would be a wife.
My mother’s hands stretched out to hold
My firstborn child, and then she told
Me what a good mom I would be.
My mother had such faith in me.
Some years later, it was time
For me to hold her hands in mine.
My turn to comfort, wipe her brow,
To be strong for my mother now.
To say goodbye, to wipe my tears,
To remember all the wonderful years
My mother’s hands were there for me.
Now I can no longer see…….
My mother’s hands.

We can replace any thing or any one in our life but not a loving and a caring mother.
