Loose change

Contributed by vlad on Tuesday, 6th March 2007 @ 08:08:03 PM in AEST
Topic: oops

I needed butter
I had 9 bucks on me, I went to the store, got my 3 dollar steak
Got my small can of beans, and another small can of corn.
With a few dollars left I bought 2 small bottles of cheap merlot from Chile.
I forgot about the butter.
On the way home I stopped at a convienent store.
looked for the butter.
looked at the butter.
no prices.
I asked "how much is the butter"?
there was only 1 dollar and change in my pocket
Four dollars he/she said ( I couldn't tell which)
forget it, let me get a quickpick and a dollar scratch-off
a young punk walked in acting all tough, I acted tough.
he/she gave me my quickpick, and asked what scratch off I wanted
pick one
number #4
Loose change.
I was excited, I was paying for it in loose change before he/she could know it.
big smile on my face.
it was going to be it.
the one.
I cooked my skeak, on the pan, dry.
no butter
heated the vegetables in the mic.
sat down,
ate, drank, finished...
looked at the card.
it was still untouched.
but the magic was gone.
I thought do the numbers change when the feeling is gone?
it was still the same card.
the feeling was there when I bought it.
the prize amount was 500 bucks!
I took a dime out of my pocket and scratched with respect.
25 cents
25 cents!
1 cent...
5 cents
10 cents
and......
10 cents

no steak tomorrow, no wine..
no butter.

interesting write but isnt that how life works, you think you have the world in your hand then you look again and all it ever had been was some dust off the ground. Nice write i liked it.
