The War Between the Voices in my Head

Contributed by ashleigh on Tuesday, 6th March 2007 @ 06:32:18 PM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

Lock me inside a concrete room
With a window and a bed
Then I would not feel the gloom
Upon my saddened head

Despite the window’s cheerfulness
I’d stare into the wall
Of vast and empty hopefulness
Into which I feel small

The ocean now puts forth its spray
Of evil, hate, and doubt
Cast into it, no one can save
Me from this new fate now

I’m tossed and turned into the storm
I cannot call for help
Breath has now taken the form
Of the worst tortures of Hell

Thrown against a rock, I scream
For anyone to hear
But sound is blinded by the sinister sheen
Of the ocean’s frightful tears

I lean back and feel cement
My head hits the wall behind me
I laugh aloud at my consent
To let delusions blind me

The wind is blowing harder now
My mind begins to twirl
It’s so insanely crazy how
I drift to another world

Lock me in a 10x10
And I’ll be satisfied
With nothing but myself to fend
Against my darker side

The voices in my head are loud
Obnoxious and obscene
They fight and brawl until the cloud
Has once again its King

Which one will live, and which to die
Of this I do not know
All I can tell is that in time
Only one will host the show.

Great subject with much exploration and personally I love such writes as they map the inner terrain. There is much to be said from turning internal monologue to dialogue and mature into inner quietude and silence.

Well Done

Peace

I've always loved the idea of the analogy of devil and angel on our shoulders and the constant battle and this conveys it extremely well. Yes, sometimes it does seem that it might be easier to lock oneself away, but overcoming the struggle is always the best way.

Take care,
Dom
