Sheer Distractions from the Inevitable

Contributed by ashleigh on Tuesday, 6th March 2007 @ 06:21:38 PM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

Only when I stop to think
My mind cannot sit still
My heart seems to start to sink
And the Pain inside turns ill

I don’t know what to do and then
I close my eyes and count
One, two, all the way to ten
And hope the hurt goes down

I wish that I could run away
Far, to a distant place
Then maybe I could take the Shame
Out of this mindless chase

Instead, I’m stuck, inside a rut
This rut that I call life
Because I cannot come undone
You cannot read my mind

Not knowing what or how to think
My head begins to spin
I’m coming closer to the Brink
And then I’m jumping in

The Honest Land is hard to find
When one lives in seclusion
The Faithful Hand is lost in lines
Of insomnia and delusion

I don’t believe you when you say
That everything’s alright
So please just help me out today
And leave me alone tonight

Talk for hours about butterflies
And how stupid teachers are
Tell me about how your brother lied
About that dented car

I need this now, hard as I try
To think about what’s here
Don’t let me, now, with all your might
Just take my wheel and steer

Send me away to my Happy Life,
The one that isn’t there
Do whatever it takes to end my sight
Of all the manipulative care

My happiness is out of reach,
But you have longer arms
“Fine” is just a Distraction away,
Though into the way of harm.
