these angels armed with sickles
flail like lunatics
like children blinded by the sun
and the devil on your shoulder
keeps you safe from harm
the sweet girl keeps baritone singing
making soulful tremors through the earth
archaic lyric force made life
by bronzed flesh and golden hair
the angels have lost their voices
so the devil begins to laugh
though he cries bittersweet tears
in lament of heaven's choir
all their souls feel ill distortions
when the sound is quelled to violence
for the institution is failing
cursed with the same fate as their grace
yet that sweet girl keeps right on singing
and her friends all catch the tune
now a new heavenly choir is born
sweet as a rose stripped of it's thorns

Such is the power of faith. Inspirational it was, I like this one. I especially like how you used the little girl to clear the confusion in the poem. |
