Brave Knight
Canto 4 Book 2
Stanzas 4 and 5
This day young Guenevere and Katharine
together slowly strolled cool garden ways.
Sir Marcus waited by the trellis screen
of roses bright in happy light’s glad rays.
His racing mind thought grave of waiting days.
Then note from Guenevere’s hand they could meet
without enduring any more delays.
With Katharine their meeting’s most discreet.
To see, hold Guenevere would make his stay complete.
“Our time is precious, Guenevere, ‘tis so
and we must make this time of thy tryst most
short seen because Prince James doth wait us go
to fire pit making tender sweet boar’s roast”
“What mayest I do, Katharine, to boast
of thy all fine help giving me this place
to keep a wondrous rendezvous sans host.
“Dear Guenevere, a smile thus brightens face.
Givest this thy strong knight delight with pleasant grace."
