The Clock

Contributed by FRANCO on Saturday, 3rd March 2007 @ 12:02:16 AM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

Tick, tock, tick, tock,
ticking clock
Day or night,
bitter cold or
summer
you demur to stop.

Tick, tock, tick, tock,
ticking clock,
my childhood
lost, and my youth
but a forgotten past,
why wouldn’t you stop?.

Tick, tock, tick, tock,
Ticking clock,
moment of joy,
at times of peace,
glorious fortune,
ho; all that I
conspired was,
how to block.

Tick, tock, tick, tock,
ticking clock,
with slivery hair
my wrinkles face,
’nd rickety hand
all I that I beg thee,
ho; ticking clock,
please don’t stop,
please don’t stop,
please don’t stop.

We all count those tick tocks...as long as we fill them with a value they will be precious minutes past. thank you

Well done on this, a very apt analogy. Indeed it seems that it is only as we get older that we are more acutely aware of this ticking clock taking away the moments of our life, which is why we need to strive to do meaningful things with our time, just as you have used it to share many wonderful poems with us.
Thank you,

Dom

A professor once told me that all poetry is about life, but that there are three paths to get to that theme, so more directly, all poetry is either about life, death, or time. Thus far, I've found that to be true, but i've also found that Time is by far the least represented of the three poetic themes, and being rare in and of itself, GOOD time-poetry is even more rare. This is the one theme that i have never been able to approach successfully and here, you're done a wonderful job. Writing a good time poem is a notable accomplishment for any poet, and you should be proud.

BZ.

I can hear this being sung by a voice both painfully slow & haunting...& I'm lost to the tick tocking echos...

Thoroughly enjoyed this!

You give voice to the object by pleading with it as well you capture its only response as it will ever be.

Well Done

Time ... it can be our best friend or our worst enemy ~

and yet .. what is the alternative to a ticking clock?
metaphorically .. I will strain to hear the sound,
for without it .. time ceases to be

very interesting piece, franco. A thought I'm sure many
have shared ..

Such sadness in this lovely write, my friend.
May you find the peace you deserve.

very nice franco-
I have often thought about "time"
and have yet, even begun to understand the philosophy behind it.. if any there be..

it boundless, eternal and cannot be stopped-
this much I know-

great write.. very thought provoking-
