Empty Bellies

Contributed by needledancing on Monday, 26th February 2007 @ 10:40:10 PM in AEST
Topic: ApologyPoetry

Feathers of a bird upon my back protect me from the elements I bare.
Claws of every creature keep me strong to clutch upon this earth, from which I share.
I can not hunt beneath the waters for I have not gills to breath,
The time has past for hunting with an arrow from my sheath.
The city that exists outside my realm,
Is guided by a blinded man at helm.

The bison run no more upon this land of over hunted skins “not meat demands.”
Yet still my hunger grows for stock to find, as hunger is the voice that does command.
I can not enter town to feed my hungry appetite.
The white man owns my town and he journeys there tonight.
He does not know my need,
He is blinded by his seed.

What space is left for me to instinctively declare?
What beast of feed upon this land is one suppose to share?
What legend can I ever pass to people of my tribe?
What wisdom of survival should I dare to describe?
You’ve left us in the cold.
The story will be told.

This is a wonderful poem, so called "social evolution." the vanishing tribes, their innocent dream and simple desires extinct (brutally murdered) and we sweetly name it the modernization.
My friend you have written a very powerful poem,
thank you for sharing it.

FRANCO.
