Red play trucks and a smile from the two
You always watched me play and I’d be watching you
Well, I guess some things are true
Like the way you loved
In February you had a belly big and full
You use to let me rub it by the pool
And, every kid was praying for us at my school
They’d write crayon wishes
Broke soap dishes
Washed down fishes
The world’s vicious
Is there any amount of kisses? I could throw?
I just don’t know
After dinner they left me home
I was with an old white man all-alone
He said, “Boy, look how much you’ve grown”
It’s just like a miracle
The fences rusted and the car pulled up
I was watching through with my sipping cup
With my Lego toys and my pointer pup
And I saw her stone cold face
Tag and chase
Tie a butterfly lace
And they cursed this place
Why can’t you be it and race? Is it my turn?
You sure are quick to learn
Holding tight hands in a churches pew
I was far too young but somehow I knew
When, she let me touch the scar I touched something true
How unfair this world is
And the choir sang and my father cried
The doorbell rang and the doctor’s lied
I was standing there a few feet tall in black trying to hide
Knowing something’s just not right
About cutting tongues to spite
Losing your appetite
Debates of what’s wrong or right
Or, have you seen a bitter light? At a funeral with a tiny casket
Wondering, but not wanting to ask it?

Fantastic piece...I love anything that views things from the childs view...oh how we keep them in the dark sometimes...so unable to deal with our own pain....we can't even see theirs..brilliant. |
