Lay me down in the emerald grass
So I might see the sky once more
Azure & deep like a bottomless ocean
Such beauty, it’s inhuman
Yet amidst all this beauty still…I feel it
The searing, stinging kiss of a bullet
As it burrows into me, tearing at my soul
All around me the colour of red flashes
My own precious life sprayed across the ground
Staining the perfect emerald of the grass
Into a sick, repulsive crimson
The angels now gather around me
They call me, they call me
They fumble & flurry
Trying to re-animate a beat-up body
But try as they might they can only watch
As war reaches out its clawed, cold hand
Carrying off its spoils
As the light fades from my face
Never again will my eyes see such beauty
for I will forever remain blinded by sleep

I would like to clear one thing with everyone this poem does not glorify nor does it condem war. If you want to leave Pro/Anti war propaganda please take it somewhere else, if you are that narrow minded that you feel obliged to do this, i am offended that you would destroy my poetry. In short if you cant say somthing nice (or constructive) then dont say anything. (^_^) |

Admirably penned in light metric that is tight and delivers effectively. Your work here captures a slice of death most poetically. Painful as it is, one must still repudiate the cause of such ignominious demise, as much of poetry is for the readers mind.
Bravo
Peace
