Cruel, Cruel Muse

Embers fell onto my face
In a blackened rain my mind’s erased
And window stains still haunt this home
But I have left them all alone
You said on Easter we would bless this place
But we left the dreams in a fatal chase
I took the time for your thoughts and now I can see
And nothing really bothers me
It’s a strange path you choose
Oh cruel, cruel muse
Have you ever got scared in the night flying by
That everyone you knew would die?
You would call them all in tomorrow’s morning
If business plans weren’t up and soaring?
Have you burnt a page, crossed out a name?
Began to never end a game?
Things change they never stay
Why were you so surprised they would go away?
In a concrete poem read in a vocal fry
You sung bitterly to each rhyming lie
And your angel was given tickets but did not attend
To clap her hands or to point and offend
In this place is an unfamiliar set of eyes
Listening into all the lies
You could have been an artist but now you’re more like a stone
You’ve been around all along but you’re always here alone
Oh, you’re a cruel, cruel muse

This is a good piece of work. It flows well, and you really do get the feeling across.
As for the quote in the author's note, though, I couldn't disagree more. There are many kinds of poets, from the naïve types of the English neoclassical period, to the absolutely dreamless ones of the postmodern period. But there is a class somewhere inside those two which, when it comes to human nature anyway, sees deeper than the most perceptive of any other clan.

I love it... Reading the author's comment made me
feel Jim himself wrote this...
The second time I read it I felt it to be about Jim...
The 3rd time I read it it felt like lost love...
And the fourth.....
Anyway... nice work here... to me it takes on a
different meaning each time I read it... and that
my friend, makes this a beautiful work of art...
keep them coming...
