Let it rain down

Down on planet Earth,
Our anger builds, our greed flies,
And innocence is stricken from the skies
Black lines form in the scarlet sky,
With a crash and crumble,
Rubies fall as the heaven's cry.
All around the world beggars hold out hands,
Whispering "let it rain down,"
But for them it never lands.
We've got the treasure in our hands,
Our greed keeps it with us,
As people's pockets shrink in distress.
They're singing "let it rain down."
Another rumble, the heaven's cry harder,
This time the scarlet gems fill the town.
Vagabonds wonder from corner to corner,
Taking enough to make ends meat,
But our greed builds, and prices rise as we cheat.
Beggars return to their homely carboards,
As hunger rots them away from the insides,
With thoughts of what could've been as their rewards.
All the tears come crashing down,
But for them it is too late,
Our greed was too great.
Our greed led us into the darkest night,
Where the scarlet skies dried out,
And our innocence left out of sight.

I like this poem. It shows a sad tendency in our society to always want more, often at the expense of others and with a disregard for any sort of moral value. |
