Sixteen and Dying

Grief
|
I am sixteen and dying.
My blood is tainted with disease.
My heart and soul are deteriorating,
For my pain there is no peace.
The hands of time are ticking
On my eternal clock.
My ship is slowly sailing
Away from this earthly dock.
It is hard to keep on breathing
For I would like some rest.
Then I hear that halting beat
In the hallways of my chest.
