Mardi Gras (In Reverence)

In the spirit of good Catholics,
a million souls congregate
in a tiny, public ballroom.
Intoxicants taint the blood
and minds of all present.
The air is heavy
with the scent of maidens in heat,
with plastic shrapnel and bile,
with the hope that one might be the last to sin
before succumbing to decency and good behavior.
In a global orgy, this church of the lost
celebrates, unwitting, the greatest remaining glories:
the sensation and perception
that are unique to humanity –
profound gifts given
in exchange for immortality.

I thought your poem was strong in your signature character. It has an interesting perception and I believe I see a passion for things you are for/or against. You write with smooth ease that focuses words on what you are feeling.
I've read your poem several times and i'm still deciphering your meaning.
I liked this poem, alot.
