Death came to me while I was sleeping
And I was freed of earthly ties,
Rising lightly, upward winging,
Through the peaceful moonlit skies.
I saw the light of Jesus shining
In the heavens, bright and clear,
And my heart, with joy was weeping,
Just to know he waited there.
He was so glad to see me,
We had so much to share,
I thanked Him that He'd set me free
And for all His loving care.
He asked, "Have you been satisfied...
With the life I gave to you?"
"Oh, my precious Lord," I cried,
"Your goodness, I have felt, in everything I do."
He asked who I'd loved most...
Of friends and family;
With raptured heart, I told Him...
How much you'd meant to me.
He asked if you were Christian,
Then I faltered there, you see,...
"Well, my Lord, he's always good
And I think he is,... maybe.
I asked him not, lest I hurt his pride
And anger him at me."
"Do you say you truly loved him?...
And your neighbors, friends, and family?
And yet you didn't ask them
Had they accepted me???...
You haven't truly loved, my child,...
Not yourself, nor them, nor Me...
Or you'd have risked your safety
For souls saved eternally."
Now my joy had turned to turmoil
And my dream into a nightmare.
My gold now looked like tinfoil,
All my deeds, like fake affairs.
Oh, how my Jesus loved me...
For He spared me not the truth,...
So I begged His sweet forgiveness
And more time to give Him proof.
"Oh, God, I'm sorry for what I've done...
And... for what I didn't do;
Let me go back to finish
What I should have done for You.
Then I awoke this glorious morning, Friend,
With love for Christ and you,
And I came to tell you I'm His child;...
I beg you to be His, too.
