Tree Talk

Contributed by needledancing on Wednesday, 21st February 2007 @ 11:34:04 AM in AEST
Topic: NaturePoetry

The tree stands before me bark armour of grey,
I look up its stature to the branch and the sway.
The leaves flutter and whisper to my heart.
How do I tell me and the tree apart?

Am I as strong and rooted as you?
When my leaves are gone will I know what to do?
Can my spirit rekindle year upon year?
Can I keep the secret of all that I hear?

Will I offer shelter from sun or from rain?
Will I return year and again?
Will I put my roots so deep to the earth?
Will I only consume what I am worth?

Will the sun honour and protect me from drought?
Will the winds sing my song or am I tempted to shout?
"I’m alive, I have life, please respect all I am.
I’m here to give life to my entity Man.

I offer you air for your lungs so you live,
I stop all erosion, your houses I give.
I support all your creatures from skies and from earth.
When will you know me for all that I’m worth?"
