Duty Shoes...The Nurses Dream

Contributed by needledancing on Monday, 19th February 2007 @ 11:06:05 PM in AEST
Topic: StoryPoetry

Moving about the floor each night she does her silent rounds,
The pain filled bodies stirring, the restless “not at home” sounds.
Some tears she hears along the way but can not search their source.
Her time is spent evaluating health, not mind of course.

Her moments eaten hungrily by all she passes by,
Those who can not sleep or think and now have caught her eye.
Her heart can’t get outside of needs that are not in plain view.
The burden that she travels with its legislative queue.

One night she dreams that she can walk her halls of dark emotion.
Giving comfort from the heart that first sought this devotion.
Mechanical inside she hides to do her job at hand.
One day she dreams that she can be the kind of Nurse she planned.

needledancing, what a well penned poem by you as the closing stanza speaks volumes to this reader. Its both sad and frustrating that as a professional in many professions our hands are bound by politics and the organizations mission thus sometimes keeping us from doing the right things related to certain situations as they may arise. I really admire you for your ability of reaching out to your readers with such a deep meaning through your composures. Thank you once again for giving us a little more of you and especially your creative words of poetry.

Your Dear Friend

Praise to your profession and may Mercury's wings walk your tired barking dogs regularly.
There is a clear cut understanding and support to care for the caregiver. That means you have to let some one care for you. Whether it be weekly massage or pampering time must be scheduled to nourish the nourisher.

Many Blessings

Peace

You have told a universal story of devotion that is required of caregivers (such as your profession) and teachers with such an intimate touch of class. Your poems flow with wonderful grace and fluidity almost like a song. All they need is a little music. Wonderful work!
