Your Mother's Poetry Book

Contributed by Dom on Monday, 19th February 2007 @ 07:46:33 AM in AEST
Topic: LovePoetry

Wrapped only in the blood-red ribbon,
The little poetry book is quartered neatly,
Father, mother, son, lover;
Each now has had their share.
You never breathed of this book,
But twice I fell asleep unwittingly
With it pressed between us,
Hidden inside your jacket pocket.
Now you hand it to me,
This old love,
Untied and freed by my own hands.
How could I understand the significance
Of these yellow, tattered pages,
Until I fell into them?
Into their glorious ocean
And went diving, collecting oysters
I later prised open on the beach.
Sixty pearls winking in the sunlight,
You string them into a necklace for me.
As you close my fingers around one pearl
I hear the honeyed tones of your voice
Inside my head
Reciting the poem to me,
Letting its words knit around me
A soft, golden cocoon
Within which we hold each other,
Just as your father holds your mother.

What a gem and to acquire such a treasure may actually crystallize ones life to see the long line of parents we inherit making them real as people we can relate to.
A gift of pearled wisdom that is a delight. This piece only needs a bit of polish and setting of its own on yellow paper tied in red ribbon.

Bravo

Peace

I read this and as I read I saw a red rose opening slowly, I smelled the essence of the rose....and I felt you growing and spreading beauty like the rose has done for so long...great words, cherished memories...pour them out!

Pretty damn extraordinary, if you ask me. Lovely idea, crisp and clear images, and such wonderful, genuine sentiment.
