A Startled Peace

I breathe in your silhouette
I touch your ruptured heart
and still it's all that I can get
to pry these brazen bands apart
I know what lurks within your eyes
the frailties and the harms
but as the winding zephyr cries
I fall into your arms.
I see my life in red and gray
in circles round your thumb
and as the night climbs into day
I know my rest will come.
Enraptured by your poet's blood
angered by your chains
I feel the doubt, a double life
is sliding through my veins.
And who to stop the cycle now?
Who will calm my fear?
I feel the holes in every vow
you'll whisper faith in every ear.
