Only Five

Contributed by needledancing on Tuesday, 13th February 2007 @ 08:56:46 PM in AEST
Topic: BirthdayPoems

I’m only five and I’m bigger than you.
Only five and can do up my shoe.
Can’t cook with stoves or do my own wash,
Can’t go to stores with my money, Oh gosh.

I read well at school and can brush my own teeth,
Can make up my bed and still crawl beneath.
Do up my buttons and zippers alone,
Yet Mom says to little to answer the phone.

I know most of the words to all nursery rhymes,
Can sort out the quarters and nickels and dimes.
Tie up my shoes and fasten my coat,
Know elephants, from camels and goats.

Still I’m only five and Mom tells me each day,
To enjoy being little and go out and play.
I skip by the flowers that grow on my street.
I love getting barefoot and stretching my feet.

Tomorrow is special I can’t spoil the surprise.
I have a secret, I’ll be changing size.
Moms baking and decorating and getting things to fix,
Cause tomorrows my Birthday and I will be six.

Thank you, this really made me smile! I love all the details, it really took me back to when I was that young and feeling proud of the "grown-up" things I could do!
