This manly art
This noble quest
Stand toe-to-toe
To find who's best.
Bare knuckes, iron fist
The pugilist takes many risks
The fix is in, the odds are set
Integrety will meet the test.
We know their names
We know their sort
We know their purpose
We call it sport.
Promoters scurry
To set the fight
The card is printed
The date's at night.
Ten rounds or more
The purse is fattened
Pound for pound
Opponents flattened.
At weigh-in time
The health perceived
The gloves applied
The treaths unsheathed
This manly art
This noble quest
Stand toe-to-toe
To find who's best.
The champs defend
The challenge taken
The ring bequeathed
The title shaken.
They're boastful, reckless
Talk such trash
Swelled egos rally
Such egos clash.
The crowd assembles
The card presents
The ranking leveled
The bouts dispensed.
"Let's Rumble!" now
The cry goes out
Round one begins
Jabs, then a clout.
A duck and weave
A 'rope-a-dope,'
Such tactics heed
Contenders hope!
This manly art
This noble quest
Stand toe-to-toe
To find who's best.
The fans all roar
With every pop
The favorite's reeling
The score cards swapped.
The contest's heated
Round for round,
The match is even
No advantage found.
The judges busy
Scoring done,
The ring ref's ready
Let's see who's won.
Both went the distance
It's up for grabs
The judgement coming
All nerves are bared.
And then the moment
Comes at last
An arm is raised
The winner's cast.
Some fans are happy,
Some are sad,
Some indifferent
Some turn mad!
This manly art
This noble quest
They stood the challenge
Both past the test.

Thanks venkat. The Sweet Science is an old term used by the sports writers describing the prize-fighting sport. Just look at what happened recently..Tyson Ko'd Cliff Etienne in 49 seconds of the first round....now that's grease lightning for you! It may not be a science but it was sweet! |
