The Beast Within

The Beast Within

( Oh and I )

I
am
the
rare
oddity

that pet you’ll never wish away
yet hide inside and keep at bay.

Call on me
please let me out
pull me from this darkness
let my venom match your shout
Free me from this prison
let my vengeance match your need
take from me the strength to make
what troubles you now bleed

I hear your footsteps falter
in the dark outside my door
and I know all the reasons that
you’ve ever come before.
My growling and my prowling
here on this side of this wall,
are mated to your pacing
as you linger in the hall.

You’re trying to weigh odds and ends
and means and chance as fact
though once you’ve found your way to me
these things become abstract.
I am here at your disposal
as always, ever have I been
I am judge and executioner
I am The Beast Within

( Yes and I )

I
am
far
more
connected

to what you feel yet refuse to show
than you could ever hope to know.

wow...powerful naz. I can only make one slight suggestion... these lines:

"you’ve ever come before.
My growling and my prowling
here on this side of this wall,
are mated to your pacing
as you linger in the hall." .... you've NEVER come before, maybe? and on this side of THE wall, so you aren't repeating the word this? just tiny suggestions.

Pow & wow a tight use of language with a great format.
Of all the things I felt after reading this the strongest being to reach for things beautiful as it is beauty that tames 'The Beast Within'

Bravo

Peace

Scott, my friend .. sometimes you scare me!

lol

(sorry hun .. couldn't resist). ahem!

Nazzy, I think I know this beast .. and it is a wild and very incessant creature. I sometimes
wonder, does it ever escape late in the night while we lie dreaming? Does it say and do
things, we know not, until we are confronted with the victims ? (same affliction as a werewolf ..)
or maybe this is just an excuse
That last stanza .. god! .. gave me chills. You hit very close to heart with that one, Scott.
Is it possible to allow ourselves to feel and react vicariously through the beast? nah ..
society forbids it. (And sometimes ethics, I think as well ... damn them to hell anyway)

In any case, you captured that devil exceptionally well within the words. So much so,
that I'm sleeping with the light on tonight ..

In a word .. Powerful!!

*hugs*
~Breezy

Wow! This is powerful and scary in the way that it makes you think about yourself. I like how the beginning of the poem mirrors its ending with respect to its form.

I don't think it's so much our fear of letting it out....I think it needs to come out once in a while.

It's getting it back in that scares the heck out of us!!!

And yes...Love that last stanza!

Naz,

A very creative and thought provoking write, which I found very meaningful.

This poem strikes a c hord with me. My beast withn serves as guardian to the gates for my hideout. It is that inner space where I feel safe, and retreat to whenever I feel a need for seclusion. In all these years we've learned to co-exist; but I feel i'm at the point where I need to individually move beyond the seclusion

Well done sir,

Will/Terry
