Elegy for a friend

Grief
|
In the valley of this evening
a single grave lies,
not far from here.
Only half of the spoken name
is engraved on the stone,
not showing what it means.
Birthdate missing,
date of death unknown,
the grave falls into the shadows.
On the horizon two people approach,
a fallen lily in each hand.
They stand at the stone,
pondering about what used to be.
"I miss his jokes,
stupid as they were."
"If only life hadn't left him."
I smile.
If only they knew
what had left him,
they'd not be here.
And as they turn their backs,
leaving behind the death
that I created,
it is quite fitting
that night should fall.
Rest in peace, my friend.
You deserve it.

No, luckily none of my friends have passed away. As much as I hate to admit it, this poem is actually about myself. I guess I was really depressed when I wrote it. But thanx for the comment! :+> |
