I gazed once upon her face

LoveRemembered

I gazed once upon her face, and so soft was that sweet light, that I weep to think that she has left, and like the wind, has drifted by.
And yet, distance, though far, does feed my affections sweet.
For what angelic spell she had!
What divine smile that she alone possesed, and I like a moth to his bright doom did not withold his passionate flight, unshaken and without rest.
I gazed once upon her face, and once I did smile, but now I softly weep, and how sad is this my affecionate melody, for now I gaze at memory alone, with tears and my heart's tragic song.
