Uphill

Topic: Lifepoems

Life is an uphill battle,
Fighting a war that can't be won,
Until the day it is finished.
Just led along like cattle,
We all search for some room to run,
Autonomy is fictitious.
It's hard to live the good life,
To wish love to our enemy,
While they all cause us so much pain.
And I ask myself, should I?
They wouldn't do the same for me,
They would just hurt me all the same.
Harder yet to love my friends,
When they misuse my fickle trust,
And hurt me inside my heart's walls.
I wish sometimes it would end,
So I would not have to adjust,
And accept that friends fail and fall.
But the hardest thing I know,
Beyond enemies and allies,
Is learning to love my own soul.
Many times I just say, no,
I know my faults and all my lies,
I won't forgive the me I know.
Maybe I do not know how,
I've never been shown to forgive,
Just been told that pain is the truth.
I've believed it until now.
Now I've found a new way to live,
If you can forgive me, can you?
