The Affair ?

The Affair

Two people,... individuals, yet I love them both
Two souls,... linked together, since they first betroth
Thirty years down the line, cracks begin to show
Some that needn't really be there, some she didn't even know

How I hear the pain in his voice... as he shares his secret fears
I can feel the trauma in his heart, as I watch his tears.......
He has fallen out of love, which is as painful for him,... it seems
As being left by his loved one, the woman of his dreams

For he has found another, a love younger than his Wife
She tells him ALL he wants to hear, she's young and full of life
She makes him forget all the things, that bring him troubled times
His time with her is romantic pleasure, true bliss,... happiness sublime

I try to explain to him, to help him understand
This new found love,... won't last for long, this walking hand in hand
It isn't LOVE he feels inside for his new admirer today
It's lust and mixed up feelings, which make him feel this way

How do you TELL someone you care for, this is all one big mistake
To give up their dearly loved ones, its NOT the road to take
Its not just his wife he's hurting, it's his family, children too
But this young lustful admiration, he feels... is enough to see him through

I want to EAT my words one day, and tell him he was right
But we ALL know that won't be the case, as he walks off in the night
Will he ever truly realise? the pain he leaves behind?
Does he know the devastation left? can he leave with peace of mind?

Months passed by now, and guess what? I of course was right
SHE left as fast as she had come, back off into the night
Not before she's wrecked a marriage, a family and peoples lives
Did she even stop to think about this affair, they did contrive?

I am left to pick up all the pieces, that belong to BOTH for whom I care
To guide them through, support them both, through this brief affair
The damage done, time cannot heal, but wait SHE does forgive
It's HIM that doesn't wish to make up,.... but a new life wants to live

So was it that young admirer, that stole his heart away?
Would he still have been with his family and Wife happily today?
I fear now it was far deeper than some flattery which stole his heart
I feel that it was written, these childhood loves should part

So was he so wrong after all? When he made his choice?
After all she had no say in this, he left, she had no voice
Maybe he was being kind, to leave her in this way?
Because it seems affair or not LEAVE .... HE WOULD ONE DAY!

wow this is a painful piece and i like the honesty expressed and all the emotions and questions.. that is horrible that happened.. I think it was lust though myself.. and he just probably thought he loved that girl because she was younger and something new and flattering for him for someone alot younger to be into an older person.. but I don't think the affair was right at all and I feel bad for the wife. I mean if he really wanted to leave because he actually fell out of love he should have discussed it with his wife. it sounded like he needed to sort out his feelings.. I hope he realizes cheating is not the answer..

awesome write though

I think if you truely love someone that no matter what temptation comes before you, you will walk around it but thats just one heart speaking. A great poem and a tragedy also.
