Cat In The Cradle
I am in my early forties,
With a lot of life before me.
Trying to learn how to adjust and slow down.
From my office I sat missing,
Baseball games and fishing.`
For I never had time to be around.
But you changed my meaning,
Gave me something I’ve been dreaming.
A life outside of four walls.
With my hand inside yours,
You opened up the doors.
And we ran down the halls.
Outside in the breeze,
Stresses seem to ease.
Freeing the child inside of me.
A father looking in.
Never will I be again.
For that’s not who I want to be.
For time passes bye,
In a blink of an eye.
Before you know it’s mostly gone.
To miss it would be fatal,
Like cats in the cradle.
Of a Harry Chaplin song.
