When I was just a tiny tot,
sitting on your knee,
you taught me how to roll the dice,
how to pass the cards with ease.
You told me to keep the deuce,
and hold the ace of hearts.
You told me to hide the king,
for he'd eventually play the part.
You taught me how to win the game,
and I learned how to take a loss.
You taught me how to pick the cheaters,
and those who double-cross.
After you died, I played on,
and became the master at the cards.
I played many-a-several-hand,
at some of the local bars.
I even met a nice young girl,
and she became my lucky charm.
But instead of woman to drag along,
I would rather have money on my arm.
I traveled far and deep and wide,
took on those who thought they were great.
After playing just one hand with me,
they walked away in shame.
I don't need no lovely lady,
nor to be tied and couped.
I just want to live and then die,
after being a gambler like you.

wonderful write. I enjoyed it. I hope you don't really feel that money is worth more then a woman because an honest woman will be there with you even after your money is spent. `Day` |
