Sing To Me

Contributed by Jazz on Friday, 21st February 2003 @ 01:00:00 PM in AEST
Topic: goodbyepoetry

Father:
Daughter, come here and talk with me,
sit beside me and hold my hand.
I am too weak now to stand up,
my legs are too fragile to stand.

Daughter, please listen to me,
for my time is running thin.
The angels are coming with the chariot,
ready to take me home with them.

Daughter:
Father, why should I come to you,
when you never did so for me?
You were always way to busy,
to stop by and see.

You never asked how I was doing,
or heard me sing a song.
Now you want me to sit by you,
and make up for all the wrong?

Father:
I know I hurt you, baby girl,
and I know that times were tough.
I always knew you would be someone,
you were always a diamond in the rough.

I remember the day I left,
you stood there teary-eyed.
I got my stuff and myself into the car,
and then I bowed my head and cried.

Daughter:
Yeah, and I never saw you
but yearly, once or twice.
A letter from you, or even a phone call,
would have been really nice.

You never held me with a broken heart,
or stayed up when I had an ache.
You never saw me in my prom gown,
or took pictures on my first date.

Father:
So many things I know I missed,
and I always will regret.
But always know that I love you,
I hope you will not forget.

I ask you this but one more time,
to please come and hold my hand.
Please don't let me die alone,
please come and sing to your old man.

Daughter:
"Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
that saved a wretch, like me.
I once was lost, but now am found,
was blind, but now, I see.

When we've been here a thousand years,
bright shining as the sun.
We've no less days to sing God's praise,
then when we've first begun."

Father:
Baby girl, that was beautiful,
and I don't know what to say.
I know I can't make up for the past,
but I can smile at you today.

And now it is time for me to leave,
but I just want you to know,
you are in my heart always,
no matter where I go.

Daughter:
I will give you one last hug,
and one last kiss on the cheek.
Let your pain come to an end,
let your body go weak.

I forgive you for everything,
for every moment that was bad.
My last words to you are Good-bye,
and I love you also, Dad.
