There are woman with bags
Kids call them two dollar hags; they walk up and down the boulevard
They’ve got sores hidden underneath, missing their teeth
And they’re held in low regard
The people who pass
They just bother to laugh about a word like “unlucky” as if it’s some concept
But the winds in a heart
They are bursting to start, I’d accept in that beauty
It’s something I need to see
And so the dumpsters moan as the night falls down
We drink twenty four carrot drinks just for a try
With one gesture assured you can save your words
Because your heart is reading goodbye,
But I am still missing the lie,
There’s a man on the phone getting loaded alone
No one bothers to listen,
Aside from the number zero victim,
She says she’ll dial him through but he’s talking to you,
He just wants an ear on the other end of the receiver
And there’s a number missing on his address,
Right on the side of the door
It’s metallic print but the seven is bent, and now no one stops by,
Just to view,
Or give him a sigh
See, you can read a horoscope
It’s wrote blindly to cope,
You can pray to a being you respect and adore
But me I want more,
Then a paper under my door, or some figure I cannot see,
I need something visible to replace the lack of faith in me
But if you answer your little phone
I’d rather be alone, then to hear what I think you’re going to say
Well, we always knew it’d be ending this way
And the water under the bridge, it’s indecisive
I’ve never felt so very unsure
To look in Southern Comfort for words or communion cups for cures
It’s never adding up,
But if you give me some faith, if you work us into some time
Their might be something blue,
All the fools on the street, the shadows left untouched can meet
We’d dance around the truth
We would turn a sad poem into a happy day,
Take the ink from our pens away, try as we try we may find a day
To kiss this all away
The hags and the shut in cry, my marbles are running dry,
But we could find the reason why
Will you stick this out? We can find the reason why
Stop clutching the past, we can find the reasons why,
Why, why, Oh liquor, oh love, oh God
Why?
