Gemstones on White Velvet

The precipitation
fell without
hesitation
Soon all would
be covered....
Encased
in ice
No longer a farm
but now a crystal kingdom
Every branch
Every bud who
thought warmer days
would bring Spring
Now captured
The wind did blow
that icy night
Branches burdened
with the weight
of the ice
Shards of crystal
breaking and falling
and this morning....
I awoke to
hundreds
no thousands of diamonds
Translucent gems
strewn about
Crystal ice prisms
reflecting in the
cold winter's sun
Gemstones on white velvet.
Written January 2007 after a weekend ice storm which the left the farm in a virtual
paradise.

I can hear the wind chiming and the crackle underfoot. A sheer delight to read. May the home and hearth be tender and warm for you and yours till Spring breaks through turning 'Gemstones on white velvet' to greensward.
Peace

Though so cold it is most beautiful. The photo and the write captured it with ease.

Laura, the last line is poetic brilliance, my friend!!
I could picture this exactly in my mind's eye, (even without
your amazing photo), just from your words. So exsquisite
and beautifully enraptured .. the piece and the images
it evokes.
I love your nature writes. It's as if you were born to write
them. absolutely stunning ~
Days like this particular morning were made to cherish, sis.
Thank you for the mini-vacation from the cold dead world .. :)
*hugs*

Sweet poetic sister Laura~ What I would give to see such a beautiful sight. I have never seen snow and have always wondered what it'd be like to experience an episode of snowflakes falling from the heavenly skies. You have taken my mind on a beautiful journey and your words brought to life such a wonderous sight. The picture tops it off.
Your flare with a pen displays your beautiful poetic talent my dear friend. Thanks so much for sharing this gem of a write with us~
love, hugs n *snowflake smiles*

A beautiful write. I love the way you depict nature. There is fantastic imagery; and what a great topic for a poem. You did an excellent job of depicting t he beauty in which you were enshrouded.
