My Side of the Story

Contributed by Drapes on Sunday, 21st January 2007 @ 12:02:18 PM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

This is something I finally needed to get down on paper. Maybe not the most poetic piece, I just needed to get my thoughts down. You can call this a poem if you'd like. It's just me rambling. But comments are very welcome anyway. Thanks.

You eased the pain
When times were tough.
Nights on end
You stayed up with me
Until I was stable,
Able to trust myself
Without your watch.
(You saved me from myself)
You held me
When I was scared.
You wiped every tear
And said it'd be okay,
A meaning in your voice,
Promise in your eyes.
Your words and scent
Kept me safe in the dark
From all the wrong
Of the world.
One whisper
Put the universe
At your fingertips.
The impossible could happen
With your electric touch.
You stole the power
To awaken dormant life
Inside of me
That I didn't know I had.
You worked everyday.
At your lowest
You fought
To rise above,
Only to get me.
After half of a year,
Best friends no more.
The perfect couple
That all anticipated.
The intensity
At it's peak.
Your comfort
Natural.
From lover
To best friend,
You made it to
The spot of your dreams.
The long ride up
Wasn't smooth
(For either of us)
Through every struggle,
You still came back;
I didn't need to worry.
Our arguments
Normal,
Added to the fun.
Your change of mind
Not a bother.
In the end you'd
Always
Come back.
You made the
Typical mistakes
That any young boy does.
But I knew you inside out,
You were different,
Even from the beginning
"Before I even cared."
(Apparently I cared all along)
I anticipated the future,
You had such high hopes,
They weren't just words.
One year ago
It started here,
And I have nothing to show.
A memory,
One thousand of them,
And one million reasons
To wonder why
Is the happily ever after
That you left me with.
Can we just call this irony
And shove it under the rug?
I've had these months
To mope,
And now I'm tired
Of missing you.
I'd like to hate you
To make this easy.
But there's no
Easy way out
When your only hope
Breaks your trust
And the world
Betrays you.
My memory serves me well
And sometimes I wish
It'd fail.
I don't know where you are now,
And I don't know
What you're feeling,
But I hope you're
Better off than I.
You've left me broken
And alone.
Though, deep in my heart,
That love,
For my best friend,
Will always remain.
