Standing on the brink,
Logic swaying in the wind,
He thinks long and hard
To remember why it ever had to begin.
A rare gem it used to be,
A bad day happening rarely.
This led to that until hate came to reign,
This cruel pleasure that is of their pain.
One opponent old,
One all too young.
One weapon in between them,
Bitterness that knew how to use a gun.
Driven mad by subtleties,
The young one forced to his knees.
Fought without a tangible purpose,
Offered to end his life just to be courteous.
In the end, the tables switched,
Passion within the child’s eyes bewitched.
In threat for crossing into insanity,
He ended the old man’s oppressive vanity.
In one simple act he fell,
Slipped into darkness to emerge from hell.
Begged the heavens to forgive,
But, so broken, he couldn’t remember how to live.
