The Oldest of Lies

Contributed by Franciswolf on Saturday, 20th January 2007 @ 03:35:01 PM in AEST
Topic: dedicatedpoems

The weeks of the winters are over
The ice still remains on my steps
And inside this disease of the fallen, cold trees
I’ve taken all sides on the bets,

My heart is past its prime in my youth
It’s been mistreated like a wound to the air
I have seen all I’ve needed and have not retreated
Just to find myself holding you near

And when light wanders this window in the morning
Would you still like me when it hit my eyes?
Would yours dazzle for me as you woke up to see
Me sitting in the oldest of lies?

There are pictures of past on your room’s walls
I swear I’ve seen every face that they hold
But as I shrink over your shoulder and the feeling gets older
Don’t turn away unconsciously cold

The mirrors are holding my frame
I guess I belong in them here
With my hair in a mess and my body half dressed
I wouldn’t rather be anywhere

And when light wanders this window in the morning
Would you still like me when it hit my eyes?
Would yours dazzle for me as you woke up to see
Me sitting in the oldest of lies?

The funerals start in the morning
Rain falls in Los Angeles when you cry
If you be my cane I’ll dance on your pain
Just to help it so each of us gets by

Your eyes are closed pass the sunlight
I wonder just when you will wake
If I were to promise something pass all the nothing
It’d be that I’ll give all I can take

And when light wanders this window in the morning
Would you still like me when it hit my eyes?
Would yours dazzle for me as you woke up to see
Me sitting in the oldest of lies?
Because right now you’re all that I’m after
You’re all that I like you to be
And if we decide to take on the ride
You’ll be sitting passenger side on to me
And we can boast that we’re just those who are lucky
We can say that it was all for the wise
And one day we’ll wake up with this uncorrupt
Sitting in the oldest of lies

I really like this and where it goes for me was like uncovering the grand illusion with a pointed finger.

Well Done

Peace
