My approach

Contributed by cnstallion on Thursday, 18th January 2007 @ 12:34:03 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

I remember when I was young, my father told me boys dont cry,
When he said it my eyes were welled and I asked him why,
He told me that was girl stuff and boys are to be strong,
I swallowed my tears and put away my fears for so long.

The years went by and I grew, stronger every day,
Like my daddy told me, push the tears and fears away.
In life, he said, it will be mean and times very hard,
Set fire to your chest, make sure your heart is charred.

Teenage years arrived and prepared I was not,
For this girl I kissed, my first one, I thought she was hot.
She told me I was the one, and smittin sure was I,
Caught her under the bleachers smoochin another guy.

I went home to my dad, longing for his protection,
He saw my eyes and all I got was his dissatisfaction.
Help me dad, it hurts so much and I dont like it none,
Welcome to life he said, you should have listened son.

To a point he was right, but now things have changed,
For on occassion I get a feeling familiar and strange.
But my remedy as old as time as simple as turning a dial
I ignore the bad, fake it through, and put on a smile.

I smiled when I couldn't afford my bills and collectors kept on calling,
I smiled when the cars engine was bad and it kept on stalling.
I smiled when my siblings died and I was all alone,
I smiled when my fiance ended us over the telephone.

Years gone by, time has flown, a smile on my face,
Remembering the words of my father, setting my own pace.
Bad times past, calmer days now and who do I meet,
A lovely girl in 2 short weeks that has taken me off my feet.

Thousands of miles seperating her touch from mine,
Never we met or kissed each other, just talk online,
Then one day she calls my house and a conversation we had,
Every night now to hear her voice I've grown to anticipate bad.

Here it comes again, I feel it now, and I dont like it none,
We cant hold hands, fall asleep together, or watch a setting sun.
What do we do with these words, or what is in our heart,
I can only think of one way I know how to start.

I have a squirrel living in my underpants... his name is Simon
Simon sais I am lord of the little people that live in a tree in my backyard.
There magical gnomes...
The gnomes talk to the grasshoppers who have all the answers for everything in the whole wide world,
So you might want to confer with them......

See... now your smiling too..

Very good and I must admit the intent of the piece ended before the last stanza which is a whole other work in itself. Love to read more about what "Simon says!" As sadly mine is named Alvin and he cant hold a tune.

Well Done

Peace
Yang

Very touching and moving,
this is a great poem. I must
admit, I was kind of shocked
by the last few lines though.
