Lying in the dark
listening to the blaring silence
thinking of the times best forgotten
asking why can’t I move on?
Stubborn claws refusing to let go
Lying in the dark
the shadows come alive
pulsing to the rhythm of a heart beat
crawling across the floor like a spider
provoking fears that have no reason to be feared
Lying in the dark
I pray for sleep
the end of turning gears
churning thoughts
lying in the dark
I wait for the knot to ease
the tears to cease
waiting for worry, embarrassment, and regret to ebb away
